Altitude Capsule Restoration

Another A lA Carte Offering
From our Classic Workshop

Often overlooked and rarely restored, altitude capsules are an essential part of fuel injection pumps. While most eyes focus on injectors and plungers, the altitude capsule is just as important in getting your vehicle's operation up to spec.
Most shops will give it a quick clean and simply spray paint it gold but we go the extra mile in stripping and replating, not to mention testing, fixing, or replacing the capsule itself when necessary.

Take a look through the gallery below to see our restoration process and contact us today for our offers on altitude capsule testing, restoration, or replacement.

The first step is stripping what we can using a media blaster. We have used various materials but, when it comes to fuel injection pumps and their parts, we prefer soda blasting for various reasons; the particles are smaller, allowing greater penetration into nooks and crannies; the particles are softer than other options, such as glass, which reduces the wear and potential damage to the outer surface; lastly soda dissolves in water so we don't have to worry about leftover materials getting stuck in the parts. This isn't much an issue with altitude capsules but any contamination of the inner pump itself will negatively effect its performance after the restoration.

After removing the cheap paint with the media blaster there is still visible residue seen on the capsule here. Before plating we remove this via acid bath and then move onto the wire wheel and lathe.

After the residue is completely removed we do one last acid bath before it's ready for plating. This ensures the cleanest possible surface meaning less contamination and greater probability for high-quality results the first time.

After 20 minutes in the plating bath we are left with a factory-correct bright-golden zinc-oxide plated altitude capsule that looks like it just came off the assembly line: bright finish; smooth surface; no cheap paint...plus we make sure it actually works as expected too.

Beyond being the "correct" way to do things, zinc-oxide plating provides a few benefits; protection from corrosion and wear and, unlike paint, it won't flake off as time passes.

Keep IT SIMPLE. SEND IN YOUR CAPSULE.

You don't always need or want a full restoration of your fuel injection pump. If all you need is a restored and working altitude capsule, we're here for you. We will test your capsule, repair and restore it to like-new condition, or if it's too far gone, we'll replace it with a working example.
