Same Bosch, Different pumps
There's a general lack of fuel injection pump service providers and we regularly receive inquiries about Bosch products that aren't designed for Mercedes-Benz. While we otherwise stick to one brand, there's a need for work outside the Mercedes-Benz family which presents us with more opportunities to dive deeper into the world of fuel injection pump restoration. This past year we started working on the occasional Bosch fuel injection pump for Porsche vehicles, including this R6 from a 197X Porsche 911.
Overall the pump is shorter and wider, leading to a stout appearance in contrast to the inline Mercedes pumps of the era. Obvious differences include a staggered plunger setup, large viewing port, oil inlets on the top right of the governor and to the right of the plungers, and a larger governor in relation to the size of the pump housing. This model also features a starting solenoid and altimeter.
